Revised August 25, 2022
Our Summer 2022 request for C-DOCTOR Interdisciplinary Project Team (ITP) pre-proposals closed on August 7, 2022.
How can I tell if my project is mature enough to apply for a C-DOCTOR award?
If you have a product that addresses the following four criteria, you should consider applying:
- Your product has a clear clinical indication with a significant unmet need
- You have in vivo evidence of efficacy for a craniofacial indication.
- You have a patent or have a potential for patent filing
- You have a clear pre-clinical development strategy
The four points listed here are critical, but if you still have questions please feel free to reach out to us.
Can the proposed project be testing an already existing drug, device, or therapeutic applied to a new application?
Yes.
Is activating a clinical trial a requirement?
No. C-DOCTOR supports pre-IND/IDE research but does not fund clinical trials.
Is the amount requested (up to $150,000) the total amount (including indirects) or is it just the total direct costs?
Due to the organization of the consortium and the indirect costs associated with subcontracts, the total amount that you can request will be decided on an individual basis. Please contact Bridget Samuels ([email protected]) for details.
Does the budget allow for salary support?
No graduate student salary support is permitted. Support for a postdoctoral fellow or laboratory technician may be included but must be justified. PI salary support is limited to 10% FTE at the NIH salary cap.
Is filing intellectual property protection a requirement?
No, but strong IP may enhance potential for future partnering and fundraising for commercialization. During ITP selection, C-DOCTOR will work with ITPs to clarify pre-existing IP and third party obligations. Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss proposed technologies with their technology transfer offices or their patent attorneys.
Are postdocs eligible to submit projects?
No. Only individuals with institutional PI status may apply.
Can I submit more than one application?
Yes. There is no limit on the number of pre-proposals that you can submit.
Does the pre-proposal require an institutional signature?
No.
